Armed Forces Day Parade May 1, 2009 Armed Forces Day Parade May 1 The 60th annual Armed Forces Day Parade will be held in Chattanooga at 10:30 AM on May 1. The city is the only major municipality in America to hold a continuous parade since the day was set aside by President Harry Truman in 1949. The parade will begin at 10th and Market streets and go north. Instead of being held on the official Armed Forces Day, the early date is set to allow school participation. The army is the branch of service recognized this year. The Chattanooga Area Veterans Council sponsors the event. A dinner will be held in the Convention and Trade Center following the parade. A VIP reception is planned for April 30 at 6 PM at American Legion Post 95. Jim Coppinger is parade chairman and Gen. B.B. Bell is the military project officer.
