Veterans Day 2008 observance
at National Cemetery

 Veterans Day will be observed at Chattanooga National Cemetery Tuesday, November 11 at 11 AM.  It follows the traditional schedule set by the Armistice time of World War I—11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Chickamauga Post 3679 will host the services sponsored by the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council.  Bill Sanderberg is commander of Post 3697 and Bill Raines, USA Maj. Gen. Retired, is chairman of the CAVC.

Keynote speaker is John F. Gwizdak, past commander in chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He served 2000-2001.

From Woodbury, GA, he enlisted in the army in 1958 and retired as a captain in 1978.  He joined the VFW in 1977.

A music prelude begins at 10:30 AM by American Legion Post 95’s band, the Legionnaires.  Raines will introduce of the host unit commander and Sandberg will present the call to order.

Invocation will be given by Rev. Bob Circeo and posting of colors will be conducted by the CAVC Honor Guard, the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 203.  The Choo Choo Chorus will sing the National Anthem and Post 3679 adjutant Bob Punch will lead in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The massing of the colors will be by CAVC member organizations.  Paul Martin, Chattanooga National Cemetery director, will give the welcome.

Raines will recognize dignitaries and Jo Bridges will honor Gold Star Mothers.

Special music will be offered by the Legionnaires and the Choo Choo Chorus will sing God Bless America.  After the benediction by Rev. Circeo, there will be a 21-gun salute by the honor guard and taps will be played.

In the event of inclement weather, the observance will be moved to the National Guard Armory on Holtzclaw Ave.
